Michael has been practising law in Orange for 30 years. In that time, he has developed special expertise in commercial and business law.
Originally from Sydney, Michael commenced his career at a Sydney CBD firm, a large, top-tier national law firm now known as Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
But the country was calling and, by 1985, Michael and his small family moved to Orange for a new beginning. It has been 30 long and fruitful years since the move and during that time Michael has established himself as a much revered and trusted lawyer to the community of Orange.
What he does
Michael is a transactional lawyer with extensive experience in property transactions, will making, succession, estate and superannuation planning for businesses and families. Michael is adept at advising on the transfer of assets and wealth between generations and their legal ramifications. His clients include individuals, trustees, accountants and financial planners.
Michael’s conveyancing practice is one of the largest and most established in Orange, providing advice on transfer of residential, commercial and rural property for home buyers, business owners, investors and farmers.
Michael also specialises in liquor law, representing the interests of hotel owners, licensees and hotel brokers.
What his clients say
"Michael Shillington has acted for me for almost all the time that he has been a Solicitor in Orange. As my business has grown Michael has advised me in a no nonsense manner and I have always been satisfied with his service. Other solicitors at Whiteley Ironside & Shillington have acted for me and members of my family and have achieved the results we wanted.
Often purchasers or Vendors of Hotel leases and freehold or poker machine entitlements ask me for my opinion about who could act for them on the transaction. I never hesitate to recommend Michael because I know he will act for them in a professional manner."

When he’s not at Whiteleys
Michael and his wife Julia have four adult children who were raised on the outskirts of Orange. Although the children have flown the coop, they frequently return home to soak up home comforts of Mum’s cooking and drink Michael’s wine.
In his spare time, Michael likes to swing a golf club at Duntryleague Golf Club but is not keen to talk about his handicap. He enjoys swimming to keep fit and pottering in his garden.
He’s in a book club and has a surprising love of bright coloured pants!
